What to expect on the day of the event?

Arrive an hour and a half before your start time. This gives you plenty of time to park, pick up your registration packet, drop your stuff at bag check, and get warmed up. Registration opens at 2:00pm.

Rules and regulations

Spartan Race is a race, timed, judged and ranked. Everyone is ranked and the best athletes will be qualified for European and World championships. Each obstacle is mandatory and sanctioned of 30 BURPEES in case of failure. You must be 16 years old on race day to be able to participate in a Spartan Sprint and 18 to participate in a Super or a Beast. At the check-in, you receive a headband with your bib number and a timing chip. Be aware: It is mandatory to wear and to have your bib number visible. (this will also increase your chances of being recognized on the photos to have a memory). You&#x27;re not allowed to give your bib to another competitor. Medals will be necessarily delivered on the same day of the race. All AG who qualified on top 3 and gain the podium, will receive the medals only during the Award Ceremony. Click HERE in order to read the rules and regulation doc. Where can I find my results? All categories are judged and classified. Only the first 3 men and women from the Competitive heat will be recorded for the official podium. Provisional results will be available on race day. Official results and rankings will be available 3 to 4 days after the race. Spartans do not cheat! We expect that you respect the other competitors and the above rules!

Select your start heat

Spartan Race operates with heat starts. Heat size depends on the race course and will be between 150 and 250 athletes. Heats will leave every 15 minutes after the first heat.Register for "Competitive" or “Age Group” heat if you want to be as competitive as possible and race against the best. Select your departure time well depending on your level, your team and your objectives. There is no cut off time but for security reasons, all athletes must be at the finish line within a certain time. If you think you are not able to complete the race in a normal time period please register yourself for an early start to give you the chance to complete the race. Team registration does not guarantee the same starting heats. Once a heat is full, the teams will be grouped only upon request to our customer service ( FAQs ). ARRIVE EARLY: Arrive one hour and a half before your start time. This gives you plenty of time to park, pick up your packet, drop your stuff at bag check, and get warmed up.

Photos of the race

After the race, you&#x27;ll be able to access your photos and videos on our website. You will receive more information by email at the appropriate time. Thanks to our photo partner Sportograf for the beautiful pictures of the race. Put prominently your bib number to be automatically recognized by the photo and video system.

Additional services on the location.

PARKING: Parking will be available in close vicinity from the venue. BAG CHECK: You could drop your stuff to our attempts to the Bag Check and recover after the race. This service is included in the registration price. COLD WASH: Cold wash available after your finish. Before and after the race a space to change clothes will be provided by the organization. AID STATIONS: A tent with first aid and medical staff will be clearly marked and located at the finish line. First aid and medical personnel will be available to provide quick and efficient care for injuries, with the ability to respond to incidents anywhere along the course. Volunteers and referees will be present at each obstacle and can immediately call for medical assistance if needed. You are allowed to bring your own refreshments, water, and other drinks on the course. The organizer will also provide water and refreshments along the course, but you should prepare based on your own experience and expectations from training and past races. The race will take you through the very heart of Slovenia’s capital, across historically significant squares and bridges. Littering outside of designated areas is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification.

What is included in your registration?

- Participation in a professionally organized Spartan Race Slovenia event - Spartan finisher T-shirt (only if you complete the race!) — for you and your companions - Official Spartan medal (only if you complete the race!) — for you and your companions - Refreshments at the finish line and on the course - A timing chip, which must be returned to volunteers at the finish. In case of loss, a fee of €35 may be charged. If you don&#x27;t make it to the finish, return the chip at the registration tent. - An energetic festival area with music, entertainment, and various strength and endurance challenges - Your registration also includes the right to brag to friends, acquaintances, and anyone willing to listen about the challenge you’ve conquered! - And with registration, you’ll inevitably walk away with a few scratches, bruises, and most importantly — stories, stories, stories!

What to wear?

Wear technical clothing made from quick-drying materials — compression-type gear is also suitable. In short, wear clothes you&#x27;re used to training in. Choose comfortable sports shoes that you&#x27;re not afraid to get dirty, but that you regularly train in. Check out Spartan apparel in the Spartan Shop.

What is SPARTAN Para - powered by Loterija Slovenije?

Spartan is both a competitive and personal challenge, regardless of age or physical ability. We want to highlight to the public the strength and determination of individuals who overcome various obstacles every day, and who inspire us with their perseverance and courage. That’s why this year, as part of its event, Ljubljana is introducing a dedicated race for all para-athletes. The main partner of the event is Loterija Slovenije, which is making it possible for all para-athletes to participate free of charge. Additional support is also provided by the Sports Federation for the Disabled of Slovenia – the Slovenian Paralympic Committee. Each of us faces our own challenges – but what truly matters is how we overcome them.

SPARTAN Para race categories

As a para-athlete, you can compete in three disciplines based on your abilities: -SPRINT (5 km, 20 obstacles): Designed for all para-athletes who can handle uneven terrain and stairs, and are able to tackle inclines. You’ll run the standard Sprint course alongside other competitors. You choose your start time when registering. -SUPER (10 km, 25 obstacles): Intended for para-athletes who can manage uneven ground and stairs, and can handle longer distances and climbs. You’ll compete on the classic Super course together with other racers. Start time is selected during registration. -PARA 2K (approx. 2 km, 11 obstacles): Exclusively for athletes using wheelchairs. The course avoids unsuitable terrain but still includes a significant portion of the classic Sprint course and obstacles, ensuring all participants experience the true Spartan race. This race takes place on August 31, 2025, at 4:00 PM, and is open only to wheelchair athletes and their mandatory course companions.

SPARTAN has a set of its own signature obstacles, which vary across different courses. The exact obstacles on the course are not revealed in advance, but the course layout will be shared closer to the event. You can check what SPARTAN obstacles look like under the Sprint / Super tab.

PARA Race Rules

Spartan Race is a timed, judged competition with ranked results. Each course includes three categories: Competitive, Age Group, and Open. Competitors in the Competitive and Age Group categories are officially ranked, and top athletes can qualify for the European and World Championships. Competitors in the Open category are also ranked and can view their results, but they do not compete for qualification — this category offers a more relaxed race experience. Para-athletes participating in the Sprint or Super race in Ljubljana can choose from all three categories. Para-athletes in the Para 2K race automatically compete in the Open category. ALL obstacles are mandatory. If you fail an obstacle, you must complete a penalty: For Sprint or Super: 30 burpees For Para 2K: a variety of adapted penalties, most commonly lifting a sandbag overhead. If a Para 2K athlete is physically unable to complete the penalty, it is exceptionally allowed for the companion to perform it on their behalf. Upon registration, you will receive a headband with your race number and a timing chip. IMPORTANT: You must wear your race number visibly throughout the race (this also helps you find your event photos). The companion must wear a designated wristband at all times during the race. Transferring race numbers is not allowed. Medals and T-shirts can only be collected on race day, immediately after the finish line. If you win 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in your Age Group, you must collect your medal during the official podium ceremony. Remember: Spartans don’t look for shortcuts — they face every obstacle head-on. We expect you to respect your fellow racers and follow the race rules!

PARA: How to register?

Loterija Slovenije, as the main partner of the PARA race, has made it possible for all para-athletes to compete free of charge. For the Sprint or Super races, send an email to info@spartanrace.si, including your full name, type of disability, and a note that you wish to register as a para-athlete for the Sprint or Super. You will receive a special code in return, which will allow you to register for free. You register like any other athlete: Select Sprint / Super, fill in your details, enter the special code — and you&#x27;re signed up for free! For the Para 2K, you don’t need a special code. Just choose the PARA 2K category and complete the registration form. That’s it! Registrations are open until the day of the event.

PARA: Mandatory Companion

For the Para 2K race, each athlete in a wheelchair must have at least two companions on the course, who are provided by the athlete themselves. If the athlete wishes to have additional support for safety reasons, the maximum number of companions allowed per athlete is four. Athletes do not need to submit the names of their companions before race day. However, all companions must arrive at the registration point together with the athlete on the day of the event, where they will complete a waiver form and receive special wristbands. If an athlete is unable to find the required two companions, they can (ideally at least two weeks before the event) contact spartan-para@zsis.si, and our ambassador Tanja will try to assist. However, the responsibility ultimately lies with the athlete.

PARA: I want to be a volunteer companion

If you want to contribute to the SPARTAN community and support para-athletes, you&#x27;re more than welcome to join the team of on-course companions. Send an email to spartan-para@zsis.si with your full name, contact information, and a brief description of your experience, so we can better match you with a para-athlete. Please note that this is a specific role, so while we appreciate every offer of help, we cannot guarantee that everyone who applies will be selected to join the team. All further communication will take place via email.

PARA: What to expect on the race day?

Arrive at the venue at least two hours before the start. This will give you enough time for parking, registration, changing clothes, dropping off your gear, and warming up. If you&#x27;re participating in the Para 2K race and we helped you find your mandatory companion, a short introduction and meeting will take place before registration. After the race, you can take a shower, enjoy the atmosphere, and celebrate your new achievement. You can find the exact schedule in the event program. PARKING: Parking will be available in close proximity to the venue. COMPANION: If you&#x27;re racing in Para 2K and we helped you arrange your companion(s), please meet us next to the volunteer tent, where you&#x27;ll be introduced to your companion and go together for mandatory registration. You’ll receive more detailed info via email closer to the event. REGISTRATION: Registration at the event is mandatory for all participants. This is where you’ll receive your race number and timing chip. Companions will receive special wristbands. All participants must bring valid ID for registration. GEAR STORAGE: You can leave your belongings in the gear drop-off area before the race and pick them up afterward. This service is included in your registration fee and is free of charge. COLD SHOWER: A cold shower will be available after the race. Changing rooms will also be provided before and after the event. AID STATIONS: A first aid tent with medical staff will be clearly marked and located at the finish line. First aid and medical care will be available for quick and easy treatment of injuries, with the ability to respond anywhere on the course. Volunteers and referees will be present at every obstacle and can call for immediate medical assistance if needed. You may bring your own snacks, water, or other drinks onto the course. The organizer will also provide water and refreshments along the way, but we recommend preparing based on your own experience and expectations from training and previous races. The race takes place in the heart of Slovenia’s capital, across historically significant squares and bridges. Littering outside of designated areas is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification.

PARA: What if I registered but can’t attend?

Registration is non-transferable to another participant or event. So if you’re unable to attend the race, please notify us at info@spartanrace.si and spartan-para@zsis.si.

Arrival & Heat Times

Please plan to arrive at least 60 minutes before your start time. This gives you plent of time to park, pick up your registration packet, drop your stuff at bag check, and get warmed up. Registrations typically open at 6:00am. For Ultra events, registrations will open at 5:00am. For Hurricane Heat and Trail events, registrations will open 1 hour prior to the event&#x27;s start time. For further details, please refer to the Racer Guide which will be posted to this page 1 week before the event and emailed to all registered racers. Volunteers, please arrive 30 minutes prior to your allocated shift time. Your exact start time is listed on your registration confirmation barcode.
