Course Marking Issue — 2026 Spartan Ultra World Championship, Morzine

During the men's Ultra race at the 2026 Spartan Ultra World Championship in Morzine, a marking issue on part of the course caused confusion over the correct path. The issue was present when all four leading athletes, Gregory Basilico, Thibault Jean, Luca Pescollderungg, and Jonathan Garcia, came through this section. Basilico and Jean continued on the correct route unaffected, while Pescollderungg and Garcia were caught up in the confusion it caused.

Pescollderungg chose to leave the course rather than continue. Garcia carried on but did not complete the full marked route, and was subsequently disqualified in line with race rules.

No other athletes were affected by this issue.

Clear course marking is our responsibility, and on this occasion we fell short of the standard our athletes deserve, especially at a championship event. We're reviewing our marking procedures to make sure this doesn't happen again.
